🔨 Gather all the tools and parts you need for installation: a Glock 19 trigger, a small flat-head screwdriver, and lubricant (recommended). Wipe down the surface of the trigger with a clean cloth to remove any dirt or debris that may be present. Refer to your Glock owner’s manual for the exact instructions on how to correctly install a new trigger.

🔩 Use the small flat-head screwdriver to loosen any screws necessary to detach the existing trigger from the frame of your firearm. Carefully and slowly insert your new Glock 19 trigger into its designated spot in the frame of your firearm, making sure it’s properly aligned with all other components. Securely tighten all screws associated with attaching the trigger, then inspect to make sure it is properly installed by pulling back on it gently with your finger, feeling for any resistance or looseness in its connection to the frame of your gun.

💧 Lubricate any moving parts on your newly installed firearm trigger using a few drops of lubricant oil as recommended by your manufacturer’s instructions or user manual (if applicable). 🎉 Congratulate yourself on successfully installing a new Trigger!

FAQ 🚨

How A Glock Trigger Works?
  • 🤚 Finger Placement: The shooter places their finger on the trigger shoe, which is part of the trigger that provides a surface for the finger to rest on.
  • 🔒 Trigger Safety: Before the trigger can be pulled, the shooter must apply sufficient pressure on the trigger safety located within the trigger shoe. This ensures that the trigger cannot be accidentally pulled.
  • 🔧 Trigger Pull: As the shooter continues to apply pressure to the trigger, the trigger bar, connected to the trigger shoe, moves rearward within the trigger housing.
  • 🔧 Connector Interaction: The rearward movement of the trigger bar interacts with the connector, which determines the trigger pull weight and reset characteristics. The connector engages with the trigger bar and assists in releasing the firing pin.
  • 🎯 Break and Firing Pin Release: As the shooter continues to pull the trigger rearward, the trigger bar disengages the firing pin safety, allowing the firing pin to move forward. At the same time, the trigger reaches a breakpoint, signifying the point of firing.
  • 💥 Discharge: Once the trigger breaks, the firing pin is released, striking the primer of the chambered round. This ignites the gunpowder and propels the bullet out of the barrel.
  • 🔄 Reset: After the round is discharged, the shooter releases the trigger. The trigger bar is pushed forward by the trigger reset spring, resetting the trigger to its forward position.
  • 🔧 Ready for Next Shot: With the trigger reset, the pistol is now ready for the next shot. The shooter can once again apply pressure on the trigger, repeating the process for subsequent rounds.
Are aftermarket Glock triggers worth it?

Pros of Aftermarket Glock Triggers:

  1. 🎯 Improved Performance: Some aftermarket triggers can enhance the overall shooting experience by providing a smoother, lighter, or more consistent trigger pull, potentially leading to improved accuracy and faster follow-up shots.
  2. 🔄 Customization: Aftermarket triggers offer the ability to customize the trigger characteristics to suit individual preferences. They may provide options for adjusting pull weight, resetting, travel, or ergonomics, allowing shooters to tailor the trigger to their liking.
  3. ⚙️ Enhanced Features: Certain aftermarket triggers may incorporate additional features such as reduced pre-travel, over-travel, or a crisper break, offering a more refined trigger feel compared to the stock trigger.
  4. 🔧 Modular Design: Most aftermarket triggers are designed for easy installation and removal, making it convenient to swap them out or revert to the stock trigger if desired.
  5. 💰 Value for Money: Depending on the specific aftermarket trigger, it may provide a cost-effective way to upgrade the trigger performance without investing in a more expensive firearm.

👎 Cons of Aftermarket Glock Triggers:

  1. 🔒 Safety Considerations: While reputable aftermarket triggers are typically designed to maintain safety standards, any modification to a firearm can potentially affect its safety features. It’s crucial to ensure that the aftermarket trigger maintains the same level of safety as the original Glock trigger.
  2. 🚫 Warranty and Legal Implications: Installing an aftermarket trigger may void the firearm’s original warranty. Additionally, in some jurisdictions, certain aftermarket triggers may not comply with legal requirements or could impact the firearm’s status. It’s important to be aware of local regulations and seek legal advice if necessary.
  3. 💼 Training and Familiarization: Switching to an aftermarket trigger may require additional training and practice to adapt to the new trigger characteristics and maintain proficiency.
What’s the average trigger pull weight?

Handguns: For many semi-automatic handguns, including the Glock 19, the average trigger pull weight falls within the range of 4 to 6 pounds (1.8 to 2.7 kilograms). This weight is often preferred for striking a balance between safety and ease of shooting.

Rifles: Rifles can have a wider range of trigger pull weights, depending on their intended use. Bolt-action hunting rifles often have trigger pull weights ranging from 2.5 to 4.5 pounds (1.1 to 2 kilograms) to aid in accurate long-range shooting. Some precision rifles used in competitive shooting or military applications may have trigger pull weights as low as a few ounces to enhance precision and control.

🔫 Competition and Custom Triggers: In competitive shooting disciplines, such as precision rifle shooting or action shooting sports, some shooters prefer custom triggers or modified factory triggers that have lighter pull weights, typically ranging from a few ounces to around 2 pounds (0.9 kilograms). These triggers are designed to maximize control and minimize trigger finger movement.

📏 Personal Preference: It’s important to note that trigger pulls weight is subjective, and individual preferences can vary. Some shooters may prefer lighter trigger pulls for increased sensitivity and ease of shooting, while others may prefer slightly heavier triggers for added safety or stability.

Are aftermarket Glock triggers safe to use?
  • 👍 Reputable Manufacturers: Aftermarket Glock triggers designed and produced by reputable manufacturers with a focus on quality and safety are generally considered safe to use. These manufacturers invest in research, testing, and quality control to ensure their triggers meet or exceed industry standards.
  • ⚠️ Caveats and Precautions: While many aftermarket triggers are safe, it’s important to exercise caution. Ensure that the trigger is designed specifically for your Glock model and that it retains critical safety features, such as trigger safeties and firing pin safeties. Thoroughly research the manufacturer and read user reviews to ensure a reliable and safe product.
  • 🔧 Professional Installation: Proper installation by a qualified gunsmith or an experienced individual following the manufacturer’s instructions is essential for maintaining safety. Incorrect installation can compromise the functioning of the trigger and overall firearm safety.
  • 📜 Compliance with Laws and Regulations: Before installing an aftermarket trigger, familiarize yourself with local laws and regulations regarding firearm modifications. Some jurisdictions may have restrictions on trigger modifications, and non-compliant alterations can lead to legal consequences.
  • 🔬 Testing and Evaluation: Once installed, it’s crucial to test and evaluate the aftermarket trigger. Conduct thorough function checks, including dry firing and live fire exercises, to ensure consistent and reliable operation. Be attentive to any abnormal behavior or malfunctions and address them promptly.
How can I maintain my Glock trigger for optimal performance?
  • 🧹 Cleaning: Regularly clean your Glock trigger assembly to remove dirt, debris, and residue that can affect its performance. Use an appropriate cleaning solvent, brushes, and cleaning patches to thoroughly clean the trigger components.
  • 💧 Lubrication: Apply a small amount of lubrication to the appropriate parts of the trigger assembly to ensure smooth operation. Use a high-quality firearm lubricant recommended by Glock or the manufacturer of the lubricant.
  • 🔧 Disassembly: Safely disassemble the trigger assembly according to Glock’s guidelines and instructions provided in the owner’s manual. Pay attention to the specific disassembly steps for your Glock model to avoid damaging any components.
  • 👀 Inspection: Inspect all trigger components for signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Check the trigger bar, connector, springs, and other parts for any abnormalities. If you notice any issues, consult a qualified gunsmith for further evaluation or replacement.
  • 🛠️ Maintenance: Replace worn or damaged trigger components as necessary. Ensure that replacement parts are genuine Glock or from reputable manufacturers to maintain reliability and safety.
  • 🔒 Safety Checks: During reassembly, perform safety checks to ensure proper function. Test the trigger reset, trigger pull weight, and safety mechanisms to ensure they are functioning as intended.
  • 📅 Regular Inspection: Regularly inspect the trigger assembly for any changes or issues, even during routine cleaning sessions. Early detection of problems can prevent malfunctions and maintain consistent performance.
  • 🚫 Avoid Harsh Environments: Minimize exposure of your Glock trigger to harsh environments, such as extreme temperatures, excessive moisture, or corrosive substances. If exposed, promptly clean and lubricate the trigger assembly to prevent damage or corrosion.
  • 📚 Follow Manufacturer’s Recommendations: Always follow Glock’s guidelines and recommendations for maintaining your specific Glock model. These instructions may vary slightly between models or generations, so consult the owner’s manual or Glock’s official resources for accurate information.

Conclusion 🤩

The trigger is a critical component of Glock pistols, providing the interface between the shooter and the firing mechanism. It is designed with safety in mind, incorporating features such as trigger safeties and firing pin safeties to prevent accidental discharges. Understanding how the trigger works and properly maintaining it is essential for optimal performance and safety. Whether considering aftermarket Glock triggers or maintaining the stock trigger, it is important to make informed decisions. Reputable aftermarket triggers, when installed correctly, can offer improved performance and customization options. However, it is crucial to ensure that aftermarket triggers retain the necessary safety features and comply with local laws and regulations.

After purchasing a new Glock at the gun show, I will head over to the Glock Booth to have them install a Ghost trigger bar kit with springs and also buy a set of night sights. I have good shooting experience with my Gen 4 Glock 35 and Gen 4 Glock 19.

I have installed a Timney trigger along with a Johnny Glock shoe that has a raised shelf which adds tension to the spring. This shoe also has an adjustable pretravel. Johnny Glock offers heavier springs than the one that comes with the Timney kit, which has improved the reset. Additionally, I have added a trigger mechanism housing with an adjustable over-travel screw. The pull weight is either 3 pounds with a dot connector or 4.5 pounds with an 8lb connector.

        Reply to  Dan

I recently purchased a competition trigger for my Glock41. I wasn’t sure if I needed to take it to a gunsmith to have it installed, but after reading this helpful post, I feel confident enough to do it myself!

✅ Yes, aftermarket triggers can be installed on Glocks to achieve a lighter pull weight, among other modifications. It’s crucial to consult local laws and regulations, consider safety implications, and ensure the modification is performed by a qualified gunsmith or following the manufacturer’s instructions.

I ordered a Timney trigger for my Glock 22 from BDU because I was tired of the heavy 7lb trigger pull. Since I carry it every day, I wanted to make it more comfortable and enjoyable to shoot.
