⚙️ How to set up it? ⚙️

The first step in setting up your patio heater is to select a spot with plenty of space and a flat, level surface. You also want to be sure that the area you choose is away from any combustible materials such as wood or fabric.

  • 🛠️ When installing electric heaters, always read all instructions carefully before getting started. First, connect the power cable to a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlet and secure it with zip ties if needed.
  • 🛠️ Next, attach the mounting bracket to the wall or ceiling using screws provided by the manufacturer.
  • 🛠️ Finally, insert the heater into the attached bracket and use fasteners to secure it.

💡 For propane heaters, you will need to connect the fuel tank before turning it on. Make sure that connections are tight and free of leaks. When adjusting the valves, start with a low setting and move up until reaching the desired temperature. To ensure safety, always turn off the gas when not in use or away from home for extended periods.

Gas vs electric heaters: what better? 🧐

Gas and electric patio heaters both have their advantages. Gas-powered units tend to be more powerful, while electric ones are typically quieter and easier to set up.

  • ⚡ However, gas models may require more maintenance than electric versions due to the need for refueling and possible repair work if something goes wrong.
  • Electric models also allow you to control the temperature more precisely and some even come with a remote control.

🔍 When deciding on which type of heater is best for your needs, consider factors such as portability, cost, size, safety features, noise level, and wattage rating.

  • 💠 Also, safety features are a must when it comes to heaters. Look for units with auto shut-off functions in case of power outages, overheating, or fire hazards.
  • 💠 Noise level is also an important factor since some models can get very loud during operation.
  • 💠 Last but not least, wattage rating should be taken into consideration if you plan on using your heater frequently and for longer periods. Higher wattage ratings often mean more efficient heating capabilities and lower energy costs over time.

FAQ 😎

How many patio heaters do I need?

✳️ The number of heaters you need depends on several factors, including the size of your outdoor space, the desired heat distribution, and the comfort level you wish to achieve for your guests. Here are some considerations to help determine the number required:

  • 🔶 Outdoor Space Size: Assess the square footage of your patio or outdoor area. Measure the dimensions and calculate the total area to get an idea of the space coverage needed.
  • 🔶 Heat Output: Consider the heat output or BTU (British Thermal Unit) rating of the patio heaters you are considering. Higher BTU ratings indicate a greater heat output.
  • 🔶 Heat Distribution: Evaluate the layout and shape of your outdoor area. Patio heaters with wider heat dispersion angles can cover more space effectively.
What is the best way to secure it?

📌 Securing a patio heater is crucial for ensuring safety and stability, especially in outdoor settings where wind or accidental bumps can pose a risk. Here are some best practices:

  • 🚩 Stable Base: Start by ensuring that your heater has a sturdy and stable base. Most patio heaters come with a weighted base or a reservoir that can be filled with sand or water.
  • 🚩 Level Ground: Place it on a flat and level surface. Uneven ground can compromise the stability of the heater. If needed, use shims or leveling tools to create a level surface before positioning.
  • 🚩 Secure Anchors: Some heaters come with built-in anchor points or provisions for anchoring. If possible, secure it to the ground or a fixed structure using appropriate anchors or brackets. This will help prevent tipping or toppling in windy conditions.
  • 🚩 Protective Cover: If you’re leaving it outdoors for an extended period or during inclement weather, consider using a protective cover designed for your specific model. A well-fitted cover can help shield the heater from the elements and reduce the risk of damage or instability caused by weather conditions.
  • 🚩 Follow Safety Guidelines: Always adhere to the safety guidelines provided by the manufacturer. These guidelines typically include instructions on safe operation, clearance requirements, and recommended usage conditions. Familiarize yourself with these guidelines and ensure that everyone using the heater understands and follows them.
How long does such a heater work?

🟣 The operating time of a patio heater can vary depending on several factors, including the type of fuel it uses, the heat output, the tank or fuel capacity, and the settings used. Here are some considerations to keep in mind regarding the working duration:

  • ✔️ Fuel Type: They can run on various fuel types, such as propane, natural gas, or electricity. Propane-fueled heaters typically have a set tank capacity, while natural gas heaters can operate as long as there is a continuous gas supply. Electric patio heaters are usually connected to a power source and can run for as long as they are powered.
  • ✔️ Heat Output and Settings: The heat output level and the settings you choose on the heater can impact its working time. Higher heat output settings will consume more fuel or electricity, potentially reducing the overall operating duration. Conversely, using lower heat settings can extend the working time.
  • ✔️ Environmental Factors: External factors, such as ambient temperature and wind conditions, can affect the working duration of a heater. Colder temperatures or strong winds may cause the heater to work harder to maintain the desired heat output, resulting in increased fuel or energy consumption and potentially shorter working times.
How to store a patio heater?

💣 Properly storing a patio heater when it’s not in use is essential for maintaining its condition and extending its lifespan. Here are some guidelines on how to store it:

  • ⌛️ Clean and Remove Debris: Before storing the patio heater, ensure that it is clean and free from any debris or dirt.
  • ⌛️ Disassemble (if applicable): If your heater has any detachable parts or components, such as a reflector, hood, or stand, disassemble them as per the manufacturer’s instructions. This will make the storage process more compact and help prevent any damage during storage.
  • ⌛️ Remove Fuel Source: If it is powered by propane or natural gas, disconnect the fuel source according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. Safely remove the propane tank or shut off the gas supply to the heater. Ensure that there are no remaining traces of fuel in the heater before proceeding with storage.
  • ⌛️ Cover and Protect: Invest in a high-quality cover specifically designed for patio heaters. Select a cover that fits your heater’s dimensions properly and provides adequate protection from dust, moisture, and UV rays. Before covering, ensure that the heater is dry to prevent the growth of mold or mildew during storage.
  • ⌛️ Choose a Suitable Storage Location: Find a suitable storage location for your patio heater. It should be a dry, well-ventilated area, preferably indoors, such as a garage, shed, or storage room. Avoid storing the heater in areas prone to extreme temperatures or humidity, as these conditions can damage the components.
What is the best height for heater?

☑️ The optimal height for a patio heater depends on various factors, including the type of heater, the intended use, and the surrounding environment.

  • ✴️ Safety: Ensure that the heater is placed at a height that minimizes the risk of accidental contact with hot surfaces, especially for children or pets.
  • ✴️ Heat Distribution: Generally, positioning the heater at a higher level allows heat to spread over a larger area. However, it’s important to strike a balance to ensure that the heat is still effective and reaches the desired seating or gathering areas.
  • ✴️ Ambient Environment: Take into account the overall layout and environment of the patio area. Consider the height of surrounding structures, such as tables, awnings, or pergolas, to ensure the heater is positioned at an appropriate height that complements the surroundings.

Conclusion 😊

When it comes to purchasing a patio heater, you want one that is reliable and efficient. We hope our reviews of the best heaters have helped you decide which model is perfect for your needs – whether they are gas-powered, electric-powered, portable, or permanent. I have been considering different heating options for my patio, and after researching various articles, I have come across a recommendation for infrared heaters. They are said to be both efficient and cost-effective. One of the advantages highlighted is their ability to provide instant heat at the desired temperature. I even read about someone who had an infrared heater wired into their house and mounted on the wall, which seemed like a neat and space-saving solution. While I don’t have personal experience with infrared heaters, the positive feedback I’ve come across has piqued my interest in exploring this option further.

Depending on my usage, I would personally recommend sticking with a chiminea and using wood as a heating solution. It provides a rustic and cozy ambiance, and if I don’t plan on using it frequently, it can be a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option. But if you need it – Heat Storm HS-1500-TT Infrared Heater is a quality choice.

I’ve been considering the tower-style patio heaters. While they are relatively affordable, I’m not particularly fond of their aesthetics and the amount of space they occupy. I’m curious if anyone has experience with this type of heater and how they feel about it.

I haven’t purchased my patio heater yet, but during my research, I discovered an interesting option. While propane heaters are more commonly used due to factors like availability and installation requirements, it’s possible to convert a propane heater to natural gas. This conversion involves changing the jets and orifices to the appropriate sizes for natural gas. So, if I come across the perfect propane heater but prefer to use natural gas, I can explore the option of converting it.

I purchased Thermo Tiki Deluxe Propane Outdoor Patio Heater. So far, it has been performing well and provides ample heat. However, I did have to consider additional factors such as purchasing a cover to protect it from the elements and ensuring it is securely anchored and weighted down to withstand high winds.

Hello! This year, my family and I decided to invest in propane patio heaters to prolong our patio season here in Cleveland, Ohio. However, we found ourselves having to replace the propane tanks every few days, which became quite inconvenient. I was wondering if any of you have experience with installing electric or gas heating options and whether you think it’s worth the investment. I appreciate any insights or recommendations you can provide. Thank you!

In our experience here in NYC, we have tried both electric and propane patio heaters. Comparatively, we found that the propane ones tend to generate more heat per unit. However, the inconvenience of having to switch out propane tanks every couple of days became a hassle. On the other hand, electric heaters required some electrical work on our breakers, which ended up costing us more money. If you’re considering electric heaters, I would recommend verifying if your electrical panel can handle the additional load and comparing the local electricity prices to propane costs.

I’m considering adding an electric heater to the roof beam, which is about 10 feet high. I’m unsure about which heaters are effective and provide sufficient heat. Currently, I have a small portable unit that uses 1200 watts, but it doesn’t seem to emit much heat unless you’re within 6 inches of it. I’m open to suggestions that might be more suitable, such as a natural gas heater or a gas fire pit.

I’ve considered the option of using a gas heater, which would be more cost-effective to operate. However, I’ve found that gas heaters tend to be ineffective beyond a few feet of their reach. To overcome this limitation, I’ve thought about partially enclosing the heating area. One idea is to create a removable enclosure that can be dismantled during the spring. I envision using corrugated steel roofing on a separate frame, ensuring that I don’t need to puncture holes in the rafters of my pergola. Additionally, I could stretch heavy canvas across the sides to create walls. Having a roof and enclosing two to three adjacent sides, I believe it would significantly enhance heat retention and make a noticeable difference in warming the space.

Since I live in Appalachia, I’m fortunate to have abundant access to wood compared to many regions in the Southwest. If you happen to have access to wood, I highly recommend considering a chiminea as a heating option.
