Hard shell jackets are heavier but ideal for the harshest conditions. 🟠 Fleece Tactical Jackets – Made of insulating fleece material, these retain body heat well. Maintenance 🧺

Based on our experience, they can be cleaned using a variety of methods, depending on the type of jacket and the level of dirt and grime.

Regards common instructions the most effective way to clean most of these jackets is to machine wash them on a cold, gentle cycle with a mild detergent. ⏭️ Be sure to close all zippers and velcro closures before washing, and turn the jacket inside out to protect the exterior fabric.

After experimenting with cleaning jackets, we have found that it is important to avoid using fabric softener or bleach when washing tactical jackets, as these products can damage the fabric and reduce its water resistance.

Here are some additional tips for cleaning:

  • ✔️ For heavily soiled jackets, pre-treat any stubborn stains with a mild detergent or stain remover before washing.
  • ✔️ If your jacket has any removable pads or inserts, be sure to remove them before washing.
  • ✔️ To clean a jacket with leather accents, wipe the leather with a damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Be sure to dry the leather completely after cleaning.
  • ✔️ If your jacket has any reflective material, be careful not to iron over it, as this can damage the material.

Here are some specific cleaning tips for different types of jackets:

Waterproof jackets: To maintain the water resistance of your jacket, be sure to use a detergent that is specifically designed for waterproof fabrics. You may also want to apply a water-repellent treatment to the jacket after washing and drying.
Down jackets:  Down jackets can be machine-washed on a cold, gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Be sure to add a few tennis balls to the dryer to help fluff the down.
Fleece jackets:  Fleece jackets can be machine washed on a cold, gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Avoid using fabric softener, as this can reduce the wicking properties of the fleece.

FAQ🚨

What materials are commonly used in tactical jackets?
💠 Nylon: Nylon is a popular choice for the outer shell of jackets. It is lightweight, durable, and water-resistant, making it suitable for a wide range of outdoor activities. Additionally, it can be treated with coatings like DWR (Durable Water Repellent) to enhance water resistance. 💠 Softshell: Softshell fabrics are a combination of stretchy, breathable, and water-resistant materials. They provide good mobility and are suitable for mild to moderate weather conditions. 💠 Cotton Canvas: While less common, some jackets may use cotton canvas for a rugged and classic appearance. However, cotton is not as water-resistant as synthetic materials and can be heavier when wet.
💠 Polyester: Polyester fabrics are known for their durability, moisture-wicking properties, and resistance to abrasion. They are often used in jacket linings and as part of hybrid fabric blends. 💠 Hardshell: Hardshell fabrics like Gore-Tex and eVent are highly waterproof and windproof. They are used in jackets designed for extreme weather conditions, such as heavy rain or snow. 💠 Fleece: Fleece linings or inserts can add warmth and comfort to jackets. Fleece is known for its insulating properties and moisture-wicking capabilities.
What makes a jacket tactical?

Firstly, they are designed for function and performance beyond casual wear. The materials, features, and construction are optimized for demanding use by military, law enforcement, security personnel, and other professionals operating in challenging environments.

Next, they incorporate multiple storage options for operational gear. This includes large cargo pockets, interior organizer pockets, sleeve pockets, and concealed pockets to provide efficient access to tools, ammunition, first aid, communications, and other mission-essential equipment. The jackets allow users to comfortably carry ample supplies within quick reach.

Moreover, they employ modular and customizable systems to adapt to evolving needs. Attachment points such as MOLLE webbing allow users to configure pouches and accessories to suit specific missions or loadouts. Interchangeable components create flexibility and tailorability.

Finally, these jackets incorporate design elements for protection and concealment per operational requirements. Features include shoulder pads, elbow pads, drag handles, D-rings, low-profile or subdued colours, and Velcro for removable ID patches. Some jackets accept armour for ballistic protection.

What types of hoods can be in tactical jackets?

These jackets often come with a variety of hoods designed to enhance functionality and adaptability in different outdoor and tactical situations. The type of hood you’ll find on a tactical jacket can vary depending on the jacket’s intended use and design. Here are some common types of hoods:

  • ⚫ Fixed Hood: The fixed hood is permanently attached to the jacket and cannot be removed. It provides consistent coverage and protection against the elements. This type of hood is convenient as it is always available when needed.
  • ⚫ Adjustable Hood: These jackets often feature hoods with adjustable drawstrings or toggles. These allow you to tighten or loosen the hood for a secure fit and improved visibility. The adjustable hood ensures a snug fit, especially during windy conditions.
  • ⚫ Helmet-Compatible Hood: Certain jackets are designed with hoods that can accommodate helmets worn by military or law enforcement personnel. These hoods have a larger size and extra adjustability to fit over various helmet styles while providing protection and unrestricted movement.
  • ⚫ Removable Hood: They may have a removable hood, allowing you to detach it when not needed or for easier cleaning. This feature offers versatility, enabling you to customize your jacket’s appearance or adapt to different weather conditions.

The specific type of hood will depend on the jacket’s intended use and the manufacturer’s design choices. When choosing a jacket, consider the type of activities you’ll be using it for and the environmental conditions you’ll encounter to ensure the hood meets your needs.

What is the difference between waterproof VS. water-repellent?

A waterproof material or garment is designed to prevent water from penetrating through it, even under sustained or heavy rainfall. Waterproof jackets are typically constructed using advanced technologies, such as laminated or coated fabrics with sealed seams. ✅ These materials create a barrier that effectively blocks water from entering the jacket, keeping you dry in wet conditions.

On the other hand water-repellent material or garment, on the other hand, is designed to resist the initial penetration of water. While it may not offer the same level of protection as a fully waterproof garment, a water-repellent jacket is still effective at repelling light rain, drizzle, or moisture to some extent. ✅ Water-repellent jackets often have a durable water-repellent (DWR) coating applied to the outer fabric, which causes water to bead up and roll off the surface rather than being absorbed.

Why does my tactical jacket get wet inside?

There are two main reasons why it might get wet inside:

1. Condensation: ⏭️ When your body temperature is higher than the temperature outside, your sweat can condense on the inside of your jacket. This is especially common in cold, humid weather.

2. Perspiration: ⏭️ If you are sweating heavily, your jacket may not be able to wick away all of the moisture, and some of it may end up on the inside of the jacket. This is especially common if you are wearing a jacket that is not made from a breathable fabric.

Here are some tips to help prevent your tactical jacket from getting wet inside:

  • Wear a base layer made from a wicking fabric, such as merino wool or synthetic fabric. This will help to wick sweat away from your body and keep you dry.
  • Choose a jacket that is made from a breathable fabric, such as Gore-Tex or eVent. These fabrics allow sweat to escape while keeping rain and wind out.
  • Avoid wearing too many layers of clothing, as this can make you sweat more.
  • If you are sweating heavily, unzip your jacket or take it off for a while to let your body cool down.

If your jacket does get wet inside, you can hang it up to dry in a well-ventilated area. You can also use a hair dryer on the cool setting to help dry it out.

Conclusion🏆

Choosing the best tactical jacket for your needs can be a daunting task. With so many options on the market, it is essential to consider the purpose and intended use, material and durability, weather resistance, fit and comfort, storage and pockets, compatibility with gear or accessories, insulation and layering options as well as style and appearance when making a purchase decision. Lastly, take into consideration brand reputation reviews before narrowing down your final choice. Keeping these tips in mind will help you find the perfect jacket that meets all of your requirements while staying within budget.🤩🛒

I washed my gore-tex jacket to remove food odors (from grilling and smoke) but the smell still remains, particularly in the hood. Do you have any suggestions for effectively eliminating the smell?

    Natalia
    Reply to  CCT

📌Air it Out: Hang your jacket outdoors in a well-ventilated area. Fresh air can help eliminate odors naturally. Leave it outside for a few hours or overnight, if possible.

📌 Spot Cleaning:. Rinse thoroughly and allow it to air dry.

📌 Machine Wash: Check the care instructions on your jacket. If it is machine washable, use a gentle cycle and mild detergent specifically designed for technical fabrics. Make sure to zip up any zippers and secure any Velcro closures before washing. Wash it separately or with similar garments. Avoid using fabric softeners as they can leave residue and affect the jacket’s performance.

📌 Odor Eliminating Spray: Use a fabric odor eliminator spray designed for technical fabrics. Spray it lightly over the jacket, focusing on areas with strong odors. Allow it to air dry, and the spray will help neutralize and eliminate the smells.

📌 Activated Charcoal or Baking Soda: Place a small container filled with activated charcoal or baking soda inside the jacket’s pockets or near the armpit area. These substances can absorb and neutralize odors over time. Leave it in for a day or two, then remove and air out the jacket.

📌 Professional Cleaning: If the odor persists or if your jacket has specific care instructions, consider taking it to a professional cleaner who specializes in technical fabrics. They have the expertise to clean and deodorize the jacket effectively.

Here are some ways to customize your tactical jacket:

Patches and Badges 🎖️: Add patches, badges, or insignias to your jacket. These can represent your affiliations, achievements, or simply reflect your personal style. Patches can be sewn on or attached using hook-and-loop fasteners.

Morale Patches 🤘: Morale patches are a popular way to express your personality and interests. They often feature humorous or motivational designs. These patches typically have hook-and-loop backing, allowing you to attach and swap them easily.

Velcro Panels 🧵: If your jacket has Velcro panels, you can attach compatible accessories such as ID patches, name tags, or small pouches. These panels provide versatility and allow for quick customization.

Zipper Pulls and Cordage 🤏: Replace the standard zipper pulls with paracord or custom pulls. This not only adds functionality but also adds a unique touch to your jacket.

Custom Embroidery or Printing 🧵🖨️: Consider adding custom embroidery or printing to your jacket. This could include your name, logo, or personalized designs. Consult a professional embroiderer or printer to bring your ideas to life.

Reflective Tape or Piping 🚧: For increased visibility and safety, you can attach reflective tape or piping to strategic areas of your jacket. This customization option is particularly useful for those working in low-light conditions.

Cord Management Systems 📶: Install cord management systems like cord clips or loops on your jacket to keep headphone cables or communication wires organized and out of the way.

Additional Pockets or Attachments 📦: Depending on your specific needs, you can add extra pockets, pouches, or attachment points to your jacket. These can be sewn on or attached using MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) webbing or hook-and-loop fasteners.

Hood Customization 🧢: If your jacket has a removable or stowable hood, consider adding patches, reflective elements, or custom drawcord pulls to make it stand out.

I own one of these jackets. They are spacious and cozy. The size I usually wear is XXL and it fit me perfectly. However, mine is not very good at repelling water.

I’ve been enjoying my Rothco jacket for a year now, even though it’s generally too warm for Southern California. I’ve recently used it during trips to the East and Canada, and it held up well during the first week of December in Saskatchewan. All I needed to add were gloves and a scarf.

I bought one. Everything is good. But the pockets are so uncomfortable. They are high

The pockets are designed to be high and the arms to be in a “chicken wing” position to prevent rain from entering the lower pockets when your hands are in them. When it rains, the water runs down off your elbow instead of into your pocket because the pockets are positioned higher.

The front pockets are positioned higher to allow for wearing a backpack with a hip-belt and still being able to reach the pockets.

🧺 Most tactical jackets are machine washable, but it’s essential to check the manufacturer’s instructions for specific care guidelines. Some jackets may require special treatments or mild detergents to maintain their performance and durability.
