BEST GLOCK 19 SIGHTS

What are Glock 19 sights?🤔

They are aiming devices mounted on a firearm that allows the shooter to accurately line up their shot. The goal is to provide an accurate point of aim so the firearm can be effectively fired at the intended target. Sight selection depends on firearm type and the specific needs of the shooter.

Glock 19 sights

Features✍️

Sights for a Glock 19, like sights for other handguns, come in various configurations and offer different features to suit the needs and preferences of shooters. Here are some common features:

🔷 Ease of Installation: Many Glock owners choose aftermarket sights, so ease of installation can be an important feature. Some sights are designed for simple, tool-free installation, while others may require gunsmithing.

🔷 Adjustability: Adjustable sights allow shooters to make windage (horizontal) and elevation (vertical) adjustments to the point of impact. This is important for achieving precise shot placement and zeroing the firearm.

🔷 Co-Witnessing: If you’re using a red dot sight, some Glock 19 sights are designed to co-witness, meaning they align with the red dot sight, providing redundancy for aiming.

🔷 Front and Rear Sight Configuration: Sights can have different front and rear sight configurations, such as dot-and-box, dot-and-U-notch, or other variations. The choice often comes down to personal preference.

🔷 Anti-Glare Features: Certain sights are designed with anti-glare features to reduce glare from the front sight in bright conditions, helping maintain focus on the target.

Benefits of Glock 19 sights

Types📢

There are several types of pistol sights available, each with its design and advantages. Here are some common types:

☑️ Fixed Iron Sights:

Three-Dot Sights: These are the most common type of fixed iron sights. They consist of a front post with two rear dots. Aligning the dots by placing the front dot between the two rear dots helps aim accurately.

Straight Eight Sights: Similar to three-dot sights, but with two dots on both the front and rear sights, creating a straight line when aligned.

☑️ Adjustable Iron Sights:

Target Sights: These sights are designed for precision shooting and often have target knobs for windage and elevation adjustments.

Combat Sights: Typically have a larger front sight for quicker target acquisition and are adjustable for practical accuracy.

☑️ Fiber Optic Sights: ⚡ Fiber optic sights use brightly colored, light-gathering fibers to create a highly visible sight picture. They are popular for competitive shooting and fast target acquisition.
☑️ Tritium Night Sights: ⚡ Night sights contain small radioactive tritium capsules that glow in low-light conditions. They provide visibility in darkness and are favored for self-defense handguns.
☑️ Red Dot Sights: ⚡ Red dot sights are electronic sights that project a red dot onto a lens. They are popular for rapid target acquisition and increased accuracy. Some red dot sights are designed to be mounted on pistols.
☑️ Laser Sights: ⚡ Laser sights emit a laser beam onto the target, aiding in target acquisition and aiming. They can be mounted on the pistol’s accessory rail or integrated into grips.
☑️ Suppressor-Height Sights: ⚡ Suppressor-height sights are taller than standard sights, allowing the shooter to aim over the muzzle of a suppressor when one is attached to the pistol.
☑️ Novak Sights: ⚡ Novak sights are a popular style of fixed sights with a distinctive low-profile design. They are often found on 1911-style pistols.
☑️ Heinie Straight Eight Sights: ⚡ Heinie straight eight sights are a variation of the straight eight-sight design, providing a straight eight-dot pattern for alignment.
☑️ Glow-in-the-Dark Painted Sights: ⚡ Some sights feature paint or materials that glow in the dark after exposure to light. While not as bright or long-lasting as tritium, they can still improve low-light visibility.
☑️ Big Dot Sights: ⚡ Big dot sights feature a larger front sight post for quick target acquisition. They are favored by some for close-quarters shooting.
☑️ V-Notch Sights: ⚡ V-notch sights have a V-shaped rear sight notch, which some shooters prefer for increased accuracy.
☑️ Express Sights: ⚡ Express sights are typically found on hunting handguns and feature a large front sight combined with a shallow rear notch for quick target acquisition in the field.

📌 Different sights offer various advantages, so what works best for one shooter may not be ideal for another. Additionally, training and practice are key to effectively using any type of pistol sight.

Best Glock 19 Sights

They are the aiming devices mounted on the top of the pistol’s slide. Glock 19 pistols typically come with factory-installed sights, but many users choose to upgrade or customize them to better suit their preferences and shooting style. When choosing sights for your pistol, consider factors such as your shooting needs, intended use (e.g., self-defense, competition, target shooting), and personal preferences to select the sights that will best suit your requirements.

How to use it?💡

Using your pistol’s sights effectively is crucial for accurate and precise shooting. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

➡️ Establish a Proper Grip: Before focusing on the sights, ensure you have a proper grip on the pistol. Use both hands, with your dominant hand gripping the pistol’s grip and your support hand wrapping around it. Maintain a firm, but not overly tight grip.
➡️ Stance and Posture: Adopt a stable shooting stance with your feet shoulder-width apart. Your body should be slightly crouched and leaning forward slightly. Keep your arms extended but not locked, and maintain a straight line from your shoulders to the pistol.
➡️ Focus on the Front Sight: The front sight is the key element for aiming. Focus your attention on the front sight, not the target or the rear sight. The front sight should be crystal clear, while the rear sight and the target may appear slightly blurred.
➡️ Align the Sights: Proper sight alignment means that the front sight is centered in the rear sight notch. The top of the front sight should be level with the top of the rear sight, and the front sight should be equally spaced on either side of the rear sight.
➡️ Place the Front Sight on Target: Once you have proper sight alignment, place the top of the front sight on the desired point of impact on the target. This is where you want your shots to land.
➡️ Maintain Sight Picture: While keeping the sight alignment and front sight on target, maintain this sight picture as you press the trigger. Do not shift your focus to the target; keep your primary attention on the front sight.
➡️ Smooth Trigger Press: As you maintain your sight picture, press the trigger smoothly and steadily. Avoid jerking or slapping the trigger, as this can cause the pistol to move off target.
➡️ Follow Through: Continue focusing on the front sight even after the shot breaks and the pistol fires. This is called follow-through. It helps ensure consistent accuracy.
➡️ Reset Sights: After each shot, if necessary, reset your sights by reacquiring proper sight alignment and placing the front sight back on target for follow-up shots.
➡️ Practice and Training: Consistent and accurate sight use comes with practice. Regularly train at the range to develop muscle memory and refine your sight alignment and trigger control.
➡️ Sight Picture Variations: Depending on the type of sights on your pistol (e.g., three-dot, straight-eight, fiber optic, night sights), the sight picture may vary slightly. Familiarize yourself with the specific sight picture your pistol offers.
➡️ Adapt to Shooting Conditions: Be aware of lighting and environmental conditions. Adjust your sight focus and sight picture as needed for different lighting situations, such as low light or bright sunlight.

✍️ Remember that mastering sight alignment and trigger control is essential for shooting accuracy. Additionally, always prioritize safety when handling firearms, and be aware of your target and its surroundings.

FAQ🤓

How long do sights glow?

✴️ Some models of sights that incorporate tritium inserts, often referred to as “night sights”, are designed to glow in low-light conditions. Tritium-based night sights typically have a half-life of around 12 years, which means their brightness will gradually diminish over time.

💥 Here’s a rough estimate of how tritium night sights may behave over time:

Initial Brightness: When new, tritium night sights are quite bright and provide excellent visibility in low-light conditions.

Diminished Brightness: As time passes, the tritium inserts will gradually lose their brightness. After approximately 12 years, they may have lost about half of their initial brightness. However, this can vary depending on the specific manufacturer and the quality of the tritium used.

Lifetime: Tritium sights will continue to grow at a reduced level for several more years beyond their half-life. The usable lifespan of these sights may vary, but they can often provide some level of illumination for 15 to 20 years or more.

📢 It’s essential to keep in mind that the rate of decay and the usable lifespan of tritium sights can vary between manufacturers and specific product lines. Therefore, if you rely on night sights for low-light shooting, it’s a good practice to regularly check the brightness of your sights and consider replacing them if they become too dim for your needs. Replacing tritium inserts is a service that many firearm shops and manufacturers offer. Always follow safety guidelines when handling firearms and night sights.

What color night sights are best?

✍️ The color of night sights for handguns is typically determined by the material used for illumination, with green and yellow-green being the most common colors. Whether green or yellow-green is “best” depends on individual preferences and shooting conditions. Here’s a breakdown of these two common colors:

🟣 Green Night Sights:

🧩 Pros:

💠 Green is a popular choice for night sights because it tends to be the brightest and most visible color in low-light conditions.

💠 Many shooters find green easier to see and quicker to acquire when aiming in the dark.

💠 Green is a standard color for night sights across various manufacturers, making it widely available.

🧩 Cons:

💠 Some shooters may find green to be too bright in extremely dark environments, potentially causing glare.

💠 The perception of brightness can vary from person to person.

🟣 Yellow-Green Night Sights:

🧩 Pros:

💠 Yellow-green night sights are a slightly muted version of green and can offer good visibility in low light without the potential for excessive glare.

💠 Some shooters prefer the softer, less intense illumination of yellow-green for more comfortable aiming in very dark conditions.

🧩 Cons:

💠 Yellow-green may not be as bright or quick to acquire as pure green for some individuals.

🔰 Ultimately, the choice between green and yellow-green night sights comes down to personal preference. It’s a good idea to try both colors if possible to see which one you find more comfortable and effective in your shooting conditions. Additionally, factors like lighting conditions, the shooter’s vision, and ambient lighting can influence which color is perceived as “best” in a given situation.

How are front sights measured?

✒️ Glock front sights, like front sights on many handguns, are typically measured in terms of their height and the width of the front sight blade. These measurements are important for achieving proper sight alignment and sight picture. Here’s how front sights are typically measured:

Height (Sight Height): The height of the front sight is measured from its base to the top of the sight blade. This measurement is crucial for ensuring that the front sight aligns properly with the rear sight and that the point of impact is where you intend it to be.

Width (Sight Blade Width): The width of the front sight blade refers to the thickness of the sight blade itself. This measurement can affect the sight picture and the amount of light that is allowed to pass on either side of the front sight, potentially influencing the clarity of the sight picture.

🧑‍🔧 When replacing or selecting front sights for a Glock pistol, it’s important to choose a front sight that matches the desired point of impact and shooting style. The height of the front sight can be adjusted to compensate for variations in ammunition or shooting conditions, ensuring that the pistol shoots to the desired point of impact.

How to properly store a pistol sight?

🔐 Properly storing a pistol sight is important to ensure its longevity and functionality. Pistol sights are often made of delicate materials like glass and can be damaged if not stored correctly. Here are some steps you can follow to store a pistol sight properly:

🔷 Clean the Sight: Before storing the sight, make sure it is clean. Use a microfiber cloth or lens cleaning solution to remove any dirt, oil, or debris. Cleaning the sight helps prevent any residue from causing damage or corrosion during storage.

🔷 Remove from Firearm: If the sight is attached to a firearm, it’s a good idea to remove it before storage. This reduces the risk of accidental damage during handling or storage and also makes it easier to clean.

🔷 Use a Protective Case: To protect the pistol sight from physical damage and environmental factors, consider using a dedicated protective case. Many sights come with their protective cases, but if yours doesn’t, you can purchase one separately. Ensure the case is padded to provide cushioning and protection.

🔷 Store in a Dry Place: Moisture can cause rust or corrosion, so it’s essential to store the pistol sight in a dry environment. Consider using a desiccant or moisture-absorbing packet in the storage case to help keep humidity levels low.

🔷 Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Extreme heat or cold can affect the materials in a pistol sight, potentially causing damage or warping. Store the sight in a location where it won’t be exposed to extreme temperatures. Avoid storing it in direct sunlight or near heaters.

🔷 Keep it Secure: If you have concerns about theft or unauthorized access, store the pistol sight in a secure location, such as a locked safe or a dedicated firearms storage area. This not only protects the sight but also helps ensure safety.

🔷 Regularly Inspect: Periodically inspect the stored pistol sight to ensure it remains in good condition. Check for any signs of damage, corrosion, or wear. If you notice any issues, address them promptly.

🔷 Use Proper Lubrication: If your pistol sight has moving parts or adjustments, consider applying a small amount of firearm-specific lubricant to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for lubrication.

🔷 Follow Manufacturer Guidelines: Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for storing the specific type of pistol sight you have. Different sights may have specific recommendations or requirements for storage.

📌 Remember that proper storage not only protects your pistol sight but also ensures its reliability when you need it. Additionally, ensure that you comply with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding the storage of firearms and firearm accessories.

I use my Glock 19 as both a concealed carry weapon (CCW) and a home defense (HD) gun. I’ve been researching various night sight options. I’m interested in getting some insights and opinions on how well sights hold up in real-world use for these purposes.

I currently have the Trijicon HD XR Night Sights For Glock installed on my Glock 19, which serves as both my concealed carry weapon (CCW) and home defense (HD) firearm. These sights have proven to be exceptionally reliable. One of the things I appreciate the most is that I don’t have to worry about charging them with a light before going to bed. They consistently glow green in low-light conditions, making target acquisition in the dark effortless. During daylight hours, the rear sight maintains an off-whitish color, while the front sight, in my case, is bright orange. This color contrast allows for quick and easy sight alignment, even in high-stress situations. Having owned and used these sights for about a year now, I can confidently recommend them as an upgrade over the factory sights that come with the Glock 19.

I have Meprolight Tru-Dot Night Sights For Glock installed on both my P226 and G19, and I love them on both handguns!

Speaking about personal defense (PD) and home defense (HD) scenarios, it’s essential to consider that these situations often involve quick, instinctive shooting with little time for precise sight alignment. In low-light or nighttime conditions, there can be a greater likelihood of confusion between front and rear night sights, making rear night sights less effective. That said, my everyday carry (EDC) firearms are equipped with a rear non-serrated sight and a front Trijicon Bright And Tough Night Sight Suppressor Set. As for my target Glocks, I’ve opted for the TruGlo Brite-Site Fiber Optic Low Set.

The concept of “best” sights can be quite subjective. I lean towards a setup with a black rear sight paired with a front fiber optic sight, for example, TruGlo Brite-Site Fiber Optic Low Set. I’ve found that using 3-dot sights can be somewhat confusing when shooting rapidly, but of course, that’s just my personal preference.

I’m in the market for the best night sights for my Glock 19. There are several brands out there, so I’m wondering which ones are known for their solid quality. I’m open to any input on this. I’ve also heard that installing night sights might require a gunsmith because of the need for special tools. I’m willing to go that route, but if anyone has any insights or advice regarding the installation process, I’d greatly appreciate it.

I ultimately decided to go with the Trijicon Bright And Tough Night Sight Suppressor Set for my Glock. It’s worth checking with your local gun stores (LGSes) before purchasing because some of them offer free installation as long as you buy the sights from them. The installation process typically doesn’t take much time, around 10-15 minutes, as they need to properly remove the original polymer sights and replace them with new ones.

Greetings! I recently completed a build of a P80 Glock 19, and I’ve grown quite fond of it. However, I’ve noticed that the OEM Glock “ball and bucket” sights, while okay initially, don’t offer the accuracy I desire, especially at longer ranges. I’m in the market for some new sights and open to sight options you might recommend for my pistol.

I opted for the Trijicon RM01 RMR Type 2 Red Dot Sight, for my P80 G34 clone, and I couldn’t be happier with them. When I eventually assemble a G19, I plan to equip it with the AmeriGlo Haven Handgun Carry Ready Combo Red Dot Sight. These sights make it exceptionally easy to acquire the front sight, and I appreciate the fact that they don’t introduce any distractions from the rear sights.

I’m quite fond of the AmeriGlo Glock Front Tritium Night Sights that I have on my minimalist CCW Glock 19. These sights allow me to shoot with both eyes open, and I’ve found that they offer a smaller learning curve compared to traditional pistol irons.

I prefer to use the Meprolight Tru-Dot Night Sights For Glock on all my Glocks. These sights are made by Meprolight but branded as Glock. They follow the standard 3-dot style, and what’s great is they are more budget-friendly compared to other brands like Trijicon while offering the same quality. In my opinion, there’s no need to spend more on night sights unless you have a preference for a different style.
