If you’re a muzzleloader enthusiast, then you know the value of a good firearms maintenance routine. Proper cleaning and storage are critical to preserving the longevity and performance of your investment. But what happens when it’s time to unload your Hawken muzzleloader?

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide on how to do it safely and effectively:

1) Remove all powder and pellets from the firearm. Completely clean the barrel according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

2) Secure the firearm in a vise or other sturdy support so that it cannot move during the unloading process.

3) Remove the touch hole liner from the breech plug (if applicable). This will expose the touch hole.

4) Using a small rod or dowel, insert it into the touch hole and push down on the ammunition or pellet that is seated in the barrel. Be sure to support the rod so that it doesn’t slip and damage the touch hole.

5) Once the ammunition or pellet has been dislodged, remove it from the barrel. Repeat this process until the barrel is completely unloaded.

6) Replace the touch hole liner and replace any other parts that were removed during the unloading process.

7) Finally, clean the firearm once again according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Store in a cool, dry place until ready for use.

By following these simple steps, you can ensure that your muzzleloader is unloaded properly and ready for storage. Remember, always consult your owner’s manual for specific cleaning and unloading instructions for your particular model.

Before attempting to unload your Hawken muzzleloader, be sure to read and heed all warnings included in the user manual.

  • If the weapon is still loaded, point it in a safe direction and shoot it until it is empty.
  • Once the gun is unloaded, remove any percussion caps from the nipple.
  • Next, open the loading lever fully to release any pressure on the breech plug.
  • Unscrew the breech plug counter-clockwise and remove it from the barrel.
  • Empty all powder and Lead balls or shot from the touch hole area of the barrel.
  • Re-install the empty breached plug by screwing it in clockwise until snug.
  • Close the loading lever completely.

Your Hawken muzzleloader is now unloaded and ready for safe storage.

You may also find it helpful to invest in a lead ball starter and loading jag. These tools will make it easier to load your muzzleloader correctly, and help to prevent misfires.

The process is as follows:

1) Point the muzzle of the unloaded gun in a safe direction

2) Open the breechblock by depressing the trigger guard finger lever and swinging it forward until it is horizontal

3) If there is a charge in the pan, empty it now

4) Use a cleaning rod or jag to push any lead balls or shots out of the barrel from the breech end. If they are stubborn, tap them out with a wooden stick

5) Remove any projectile that may be residing in the touch-hole with your pick or another sharp object. Be careful not to enlarge the hole

6) Close the breechblock and return the finger lever to its original position. The gun is now unloaded.

There are a few steps involved in unloading a Hawken muzzleloader.

First, you need to make sure that the frizzen is closed and the touch hole is plugged.

Next, remove the main charge from the barrel by dumping it out or using a cleaning rod to push it out.

Finally, remove the primer from the pan and empty it. To do this, simply unscrew the pan and pour out the powder.

Once all of these steps have been completed, your Hawken muzzleloader should be unloaded and ready for storage or cleaning.
