Recrowning an air rifle barrel is a relatively simple task that can be performed with basic hand tools.

  1. The first step is to remove the barrel from the gun. The barrel can be removed by unscrewing it from the receiver or, in some cases, by pulling it out of the receiver.
  2. Once the barrel has been removed, use a hacksaw to cut off about 1/4″ of the end of the barrel. Make sure to cut straight across and parallel to the bore of the barrel. Be careful not to cut into the rifling at the end of the barrel.
  3. Next, use a file or grinding wheel to round off and smooth out the edges of the newly cut end of the barrel. You want the end of the barrel to be smooth and even.
  4. Now, using a barrel vise or a similar device, clamp the barrel in place so that it is securely held. You don’t want the barrel to move while you are working on it.
  5. Using a reamer or countersink bit, enlarge the bore of the barrel at the end that you just cut. This will remove any burrs from the cutting process and create a smooth surface for the new crown.
  6. Finally, use a file or grinding wheel to create a 45-degree bevel around the end of the barrel. This will be the new crown of your air rifle barrel. Smooth out any rough edges and make sure that the crown is symmetrical.
  7. Now, screw the barrel back into the receiver or push it back into place, depending on your gun. You should now have a nicely recrowned air rifle barrel!

Important to note that this is a job for a professional gunsmith.

Attempting to recrown a barrel yourself can result in serious damage and may even be dangerous.

With that said, the process of recrowning a barrel generally involves removing the existing crown and re-forming it with a new, precise crown. This can improve accuracy and help prevent wear on the barrel. It’s also important to ensure that the barrel is straightened properly before recrowning, or accuracy may still be affected.

If you’re not comfortable taking on this task yourself, we highly recommend finding a qualified gunsmith to help. They will be able to ensure that the job is done correctly and safely.

Thanks for your question!

If the barrel is damaged and not shooting accurately, it may be re-crowned.

Recrowning is the process of removing the old crown (the end of the barrel where the pellet sits) and re-forming a new crown. This will help to ensure that the barrel is aligned correctly and that the pellet is sitting in the middle of the barrel, rather than off to one side.

There are a few ways to do this.

  • The first is to use a special jig that holds the barrel still while you file or grind away at the old crown.
  • The second option is to use a Dremel tool with a special recrowning bit.
  • The third option (and probably the best option) is to take it to a gunsmith and have them do it for you.

Depending on the severity of the damage, recrowning may not be an option and you may need to replace the barrel entirely.

There are a few ways to recrown an air rifle barrel.

  • One is to use a hand reamer.
  • Another is to use a special jig that clamps the barrel in place and guides a milling cutter or file around the muzzle.
  • A third option is to remove the barrel and send it off to a gunsmith or machinist who can recrown it for you.

Whichever method you choose, be very careful not to damage the rifling at the muzzle. The goal is simply to remove any damaged material and restore the crown flush with the barrel surface.

Take your time and go slowly to avoid damaging the barrel.

Air rifle barrels can be recrowned by using a specially designed tool to remove the muzzle crown and then re-cut a new, clean crown. It’s best to have a professional do this job, as it requires special tools and knowledge of how to properly cut the new crown.
